GE IP 90-30 Goes Mature – CIMTEC has you covered

On October 1, 2015, GE IP announced that the popular 90-30 PLC has been placed in Mature status.  Here is the message from Connie Chick, GE 90-30 Controller Product Manager:

“…we are announcing that the Series 90-30 moves to Mature* status October 1, 2015, with the PACSystems RX3i taking over all its application capability. The PACSystems RX3i is built on the Series 90-30 tradition of great reliability and performance.”

CIMTEC is the place for on-going GE 90-30 parts and support:

  •  Hundreds of thousands of dollars of New 90-30 components in stock, direct from the factory
  •  Full in-house Repair capability with a huge supply of Pre-Repaired parts that can be shipped immediately while your part is repaired
  •  Programming tools, manuals, and documentation on all 90-30 parts and systems
  • The best Technical Support team with over 60 years’ experience with the 90-30 PLC system, available for Phone and On-Site support
CIMTEC has been through this before.  In 2009, GE IP discontinued the 90-70 PLC line.  Today, CIMTEC is the only company with over $5 million of Factory-New 90-70 units and a deep inventory of Pre-Repaired and Remanufactured parts.  Plus, we are the only Factory-Authorized 90-70 Repair Center in the world!

So, how can CIMTEC help?

If you’re concerned about how this announcement will affect your business, we can help.  CIMTEC has put a couple wonderful programs in place for you.

First, we have an on-site Risk Assessment program where we will audit all of your current 90-30 PLC systems, listing all components used in each system.  We will also do a complete inventory of your spare 90-30 parts.  With this information in-hand, our team of PLC engineers will analyze your situation and recommend the proper spare parts, programming software updates, and other special considerations that will allow your 90-30 systems to run for many years to come.  The final Assessment document is a useful tool for planning your PLC asset future.

Second, CIMTEC is the leading GE PLC Migration company.  For years, we have been migrating GE PLC systems to the latest platform.  Learn about our 7-Step Migration process in our eBook entitled, 7 Steps to a Successful PLC Migration .

New Factory-made GE 90-70 Parts (IC697) In Stock Today

As you probably have heard, CIMTEC Automation is now the sole source for brand new, factory-made GE IP 90-70 PLC parts.  We purchased all of the parts that GE IP had left in stock and we currently have over 4,000 new 90-70 parts in stock, ready to ship TODAY!

GE 90-70 New InventoryNew GE IC697 Parts In Stock

Our inventory includes over 90 CPX version CPUs - IC697CPX772, IC697CPX782, IC697CPX928 and IC697CPX935 - plus HUNDREDS of IC697CPM790, IC697ALG230 and ALG320, IC697CMM742 and all the IC697PWR and IC697MDL units you could want.

All of these parts were produced by GE IP in their factory in Charlottesville, VA.  And, most importantly, they are FACTORY NEW parts - with current factory warranty.  There are people out there who say that their 90-70 parts are new - what they really mean is that they are still in the factory-sealed boxes.  But a trained eye can tell that, in most cases, these items we sourced from someones overstock or leftover stores inventory, and while still new in the box, they are several years old and OUT OF WARRANTY.  While the local provider may give you his warranty, it doesn't mean that you will get a New replacement part if it fails.

When you buy New 90-70 parts from CIMTEC Automation, you can be sure that 1) the parts are authentic Factory-made parts and that 2) we will support the factory warranty.  What does that mean?  We will either repair or replace your part, based on availability.

If we have to repair it, it is going to be repaired to factory standards because we are the ONLY Factory-Authorized repair house for GE IP 90-70 in the world!  We have all of the documentation, Bills of material, and board descriptions for every 90-70 board built by GE.  In addition, we have all of the test rigs that GE used on the production floor to test every 90-70 module.

So you can't go wrong with buying 90-70 from CIMTEC Automation:
  • Factory-made parts with full warranty
  • The only Factory Authorized 90-70 Repair Center in the world

Migrating from older GE PLC’s

CIMTEC Automation  has been selling GE PLC’s since the mid-eighties introduction of the Series Six. Many of the PLC’s are still running factories today but there is an ever present fear that should they fail a replacement would not be easy to find. Many controls engineers also recognize that a proactive migration while the system is functioning would be less costly, less risky, and less stressful to all those involved.

While it can be easy to push the latest and greatest technology there can be roadblocks on the path to a newer control system. CIMTEC has developed and executed many migration projects using these steps to ensure a migration can be done with no surprises and for as low a cost as possible.
  1. Customer provides current program running in old system
  2. GE product specialist will review program to develop comprehensive proposal
  3. Upon acceptance of proposal migration begins and involves many steps:
    1. Hardware evaluation:
      1. What modules can stay as is?
      2. What modules require new firmware or chips?
      3. What modules need to be replaced?
    2. Program evaluation:
      1. How many rungs of logic are we dealing with?
      2. How many instructions won’t convert well?
      3. Are the rung comments in the right place?
      4. Do tag names follow current software rules/conventions or will they need to be manually changed?
      5. How complex will the I/O map change be?
      6. Should functions that are available now but were not historically be used to simplify logic?
      7. Are there portions of the program that should be removed entirely as they won’t be necessary?
      8. How much manual intervention will be required?
    3. Program conversion
    4. Proof read of converted program (3 hours to 3 weeks depending on length)
    5. Manual intervention of converted program
    6. Acquisition of proposed hardware
    7. Testing of program in proposed hardware

Delivery and installation of new hardware and converted program.

Looking for GE Field Control?

Through our authorization as a GE Energy distributor, Cimtec now has access to a large inventory of legacy GE Field Control products.

For details,  please review our  Field Control Parts listing or contact Cimtec Inside Sales directly  1-866-599-6507 - Email: sales@cimtecautomation.com

Field Control was designed as a distributed I/O system that could be used with GE IP 90-30, 90-70 and PAC systems, and was used in a wide array of industrial applications where rugged, high performance distributed I/O was required. The heart of the Field Control system is the Bus Interface Unit. The Bus Interface Unit provides intelligent processing, I/O scanning, and feature configuration for a group of up to eight I/O modules. Together, the Bus Interface Unit and its modules make up a Field Control station. All Terminal Blocks must be mounted on a DIN rail. The DIN rail, which serves as an integral part of the grounding system, can also be mounted on a panel.

Field Control Features

Features and benefits of Field Control include:
  • Wiring savings, Better up time
  • Easy installation and maintenance
  • Open architecture / adaptable to a variety of networks  distributed I/O
  • Small, compact I/O modules with generic terminal wiring bases

The GE Intelligent Platform’s Field Control product was introduced in the early 1990’s and they formally discontinued manufacturing in 2008.  It is one of the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and I/0 systems of choice for many GE Drive systems, Turbine Control systems and stand-alone automation systems. There is a significant installed base of the Field Control product and GE Intelligent Platforms is trusting GE Energy to provide remanufactured parts and repair services for our mutual valued customers. Many customers will transition and migrate to other control and I/O
